Celebrating Confirmation 2018

Information Evening

There will be two information sessions for parents and carers of candidates receiving the sacrament of Confirmation in 2019. The first will be held in St Michael's Church on Tuesday 9 April 2019 at 7.00 pm for parents of St Michael's School students. The second session for parents and carers of candidates attending local State and Private schools will be held on Thursday 11 April 2019. The session will run for approximately forty minutes. Candidates are not required to attend the information evening, only their parents or guardian.

Confirmation Mass Date

This year the Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at St Mary's Cathedral on Sunday 2nd June at 3.30pm. The Mass will be for all 2019 candidates from our Parish.

Please note the children at St Michael's Parish celebrate their Confirmation in Year 6 or above. They are required to have made their first Reconciliation and first Communion before receiving Confirmation.

Presentation Masses

Candidates making their Confirmation are required to attend one of the weekend Masses at St Michael's (Saturday 6.00 pm, or Sunday 9.30 am or 6.00 pm) on 4 or 5 May, 2019. After the homily Fr Geoffrey will invite the candidates to come forward with their photo form. The Parish Community then prays for the candidates as they begin their preparation to celebrate the sacrament. The forms are collected and photographs of the candidates are displayed in the church in the weeks leading up to the celebration.

Lesson Preparation

State and private school candidates prepare for their Confirmation with lessons led by Katherine de Haast, our Sacramental Coordinator. They attend 3 x 50 minute lessons held over 3 weeks. Full attendance is required. Lessons start on either 7 or 8 May 2019. St Michael's Year 6 students will receive their lessons during school class time.

Mass Rehearsal

There will be no rehearsal. Fr Geoff will visit the candidate's during their lesson time to discuss the formalities.

Confirmation Name

Candidates may choose a Confirmation name, or they can be confirmed using the name that they were given at baptism. If they wish to choose a confirmation name, that is the name the bishop will use when confirming them. So for example, if Mary Smith were to choose Bernadette as a confirmation name, the bishop would say when confirming her, "Bernadette, be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit". If candidates decide to adopt a confirmation name they choose the name of a saint whose life has inspired them.

Enrolments are now closed for 2019.
